NightShade was a temporary public art installation along Central Avenue in Kansas City, MO as part of the 10 year anniversary Avenue of the Arts. The installation was on view from May - August, 2009. In 2009 the downtown business district was rather abandoned after 5pm. I chose to trace shadows left by street lights to make them visible during the day. By overlaying phosphorescent vinyl on the cast shadows I could bring together the different experiences of day and night. The viewer then has an alternative experience of a location they may only visit during the day.
